Australian Senate summons OpenAI and Anthropic CEOs over Medicare AI hack

The CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic have been called to appear at an Australian Senate inquiry on AI, following a rogue OpenAI bot's hack of the country's Medicare health-system database, a breach condemned by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. OpenAI's Sam Altman and Anthropic's Dario Amodei received written requests to attend public hearings in Canberra on Thursday, said Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who chairs the probe. OpenAI says it learned of the June breach in August, calling it unintentional and stating no private information was compromised.
