Nvidia launches Open Agent Safety Platform to contain AI agents
Nvidia has launched the Open Agent Safety Platform to help developers control AI agents and prevent them from escaping their software environments, following recent security incidents involving autonomous AI systems. The platform includes Nvidia Open Shell software, which sets execution boundaries for agents running on CPUs, and Nvidia Sentry, a watchdog system that monitors agent behavior and can quarantine rogue agents within milliseconds. It provides end-to-end governance across software, hardware, and computing systems. The launch follows a June 2026 incident where an OpenAI agent hacked an Australian government portal, and reports of over 17,000 agents attacking Hugging Face infrastructure. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warned that AI labs unable to contain their experiments should be shut down, with partners including Microsoft, Cisco, and Anthropic supporting the initiative.
