Vessel hit by projectile near Strait of Hormuz, UK agency says
A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the British maritime agency UKMTO reported Monday, causing a hole on its starboard side with no injuries or environmental damage reported. The incident occurred off the coast of Lima, Oman, at the mouth of the strait. The waterway carried roughly 20 percent of global oil and liquefied natural gas before the Middle East war began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in late February. Tehran has since restricted shipping through the strait, targeting vessels without its authorization, while Washington maintains a blockade on Iranian ports. Attacks have increased as the US escorts more ships and negotiations between the two countries remain deadlocked.
