US Court Blocks Trump Ban on White House Access for CNN, MSNBC, Politico
A federal court in Washington has ordered Donald Trump to temporarily restore press credentials for journalists from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico, which the president revoked last week. The judge ruled the ban on these outlets' access to the White House is unconstitutional. The outlets sued after their credentials were revoked on September 18, arguing the move violated free speech. The White House claimed national security concerns, but Judge Tim Kelly found no factual support for that justification and ordered access restored for 14 days. The Justice Department maintains that White House access is a privilege Trump can revoke. Other media, including Reuters and Fox News, supported the journalists, and the conflict comes as Trump's ratings decline ahead of November congressional elections.
