JD Vance linked to Politico report behind White House press ban
Vice President JD Vance was allegedly the anonymous senior administration official behind a Politico article that the White House cited to justify stripping the outlet's press pool pass, media newsletter Status reported Wednesday. The June article quoted an unnamed "senior administration official" estimating an 80-85% chance of a preliminary Iran deal. Status said Vance made the remarks during a White House-authorized background briefing, and the White House declined to comment on the identification. The Washington Post confirmed the remarks came from an official briefing, not an unauthorized leak, but did not independently identify Vance. The White House's ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico, announced September 18, is now challenged in federal court, where a judge ordered the administration to restore the outlets' press passes for 14 days.
