Judge orders White House to restore press access for Politico, MSNBC, and CNN
Three news outlets—Politico, MSNBC, and CNN—were denied White House access on Thursday, hours after a judge ruled President Donald Trump's ban of them likely unconstitutional and ordered their credentials restored. US District Judge Tim Kelly's 14-day temporary block cited likely violations of due process rights, questioning the Justice Department's national security justification and noting Trump's own admission the ban stemmed from negative coverage. Politico reported its reporter's credentials were confiscated, while MSNBC's Laura Barrón-López and CNN staff were also blocked. The outlets sued Monday after Trump announced the ban on September 18, citing First Amendment violations. Attorney Theodore Boutrous praised the ruling as vindicating press freedom, while a coalition of press groups and news organizations, including Reuters, filed a supporting brief Wednesday.
