Most arrested in Paris region high school blockades are minors

rtl.fr (French) —

At least 824 people were arrested in the Paris region this week during high school blockades, with 85% being minors, according to police. Authorities condemned property damage in a movement they say has exceeded organizers' control. Police said 90% of those arrested were in their home department, and many were high schoolers, though not necessarily from the schools they targeted. Nationwide, 1,747 arrests occurred Friday alone, with over 5,000 since Monday, and 77 officers were injured. Paris police chief Patrice Faure urged parents to guide their children toward peaceful protest, warning that instigators no longer control the movement. Some students themselves criticized the violence, saying it contradicts their demands for better study conditions.
