Marseille teen arrested for burning passerby's face during student protest
A 15-year-old was arrested and placed in custody Friday in Marseille for allegedly directing a flaming spray at a passerby's face during a student protest, leaving her with burns. The suspect was unknown to police. The attack occurred Thursday near a high school when the woman intervened as a group tried to damage a bus shelter. A masked individual used a spray and lighter to ignite flames at her face. The teen faces charges of violence with a weapon, in a group, and with a concealed face. The arrest took place in the Frais-Vallon neighborhood. The incident occurred amid nationwide student protests that began September 17, with over 5,000 arrests since Monday. Amnesty International has criticized police force use, calling for a suspension of defensive ball launchers.
