US envoy warns of possible strike on Iran this weekend
US envoy Tom Barrack said Friday that a US strike on Iran could occur as soon as this weekend, following recent threats from Washington and Israel. He noted President Donald Trump remains open to a deal despite stalled negotiations. Barrack, ambassador to Ankara and special envoy to Syria, made the comment in an interview. Trump downplayed the statement, saying he knew nothing about it. Talks have been deadlocked nearly eight months after Israeli-American strikes began. Trump has repeatedly said he will soon decide between "soft" or "hard" approaches, previously suggesting no action before the November 3 US elections. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that toppling Iran's government is the only way to eliminate the threat.
