US Envoy Hints at Possible Strike on Iran This Weekend; Trump Says Unaware
US envoy Tom Barak did not rule out a US strike on Iran this weekend, while President Donald Trump said he had no knowledge of such a plan and threatened further military action if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington. Barak, the US envoy for Syria and Iraq and ambassador to Ankara, said in an online interview that a strike by the end of the week was "certainly" possible, adding that Trump remains open to a deal after months of negotiations. Trump downplayed the remarks, saying he knew nothing about them, but reiterated that the US could launch another round against Iran under "Epic Fury" or that Tehran could reach an accord. Barak clarified that the US does not seek regime change in Iran, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent threats, and warned of consequences if Iran continues threatening the world and Gulf allies. Trump also claimed Iran's nuclear capabilities were eliminated, calling higher prices a "small price" for that outcome.
