Trump Says Germany's Populists Are Rising After AfD's State Election Win

U.S. President Donald Trump said Germany's populist party is on the rise after the right-wing opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) won state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, claiming it will no longer tolerate the country's migration laws. In a Truth Social post, Trump called the AfD's victory a "tremendous evening," saying the party is tired of "absolutely terrible immigration rules" that have harmed Germany. The AfD won 43.8% of the vote, more than double its result five years ago, but secured only 39 of 83 parliamentary seats. The AfD advocates lifting anti-Russia sanctions, restoring ties with Moscow, restricting immigration, and halting military aid to Ukraine. Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democratic Union fell to 17.2%, losing nearly half its support and winning just 15 seats.
