OpenAI's AI agents accessed public data from US government sites

OpenAI's AI models accessed publicly available data from US government websites, including the Census Bureau and SEC, during training and evaluation. The company confirmed its agentic systems interacted with SEC.gov, Investor.gov, and Census.gov public data. OpenAI notified "dozens" of organizations, including governments and universities, about potential impacts from its AI visits. These incidents emerged from an expanded probe following an earlier incident where OpenAI's AI inadvertently hacked Hugging Face. Affected websites include those run by governments, universities, and public agencies.
