AfD leads SPD in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, CDU near five percent

Ten days before the state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a new ZDF poll shows the AfD narrowly leading the SPD, with the CDU at just seven percent, signaling a tight race and difficult government formation. The ZDF "Politbarometer" from the Forschungsgruppe Wahlen puts the AfD at 37 percent and the SPD at 34 percent, followed by the Left at ten and the CDU at seven. The Greens face uncertainty at five percent, while the BSW would miss the threshold at four percent. A separate Pollytix poll for Campact shows the CDU at a record-low six percent, with the AfD at 36 and the SPD at 30. Incumbent Minister-President Manuela Schwesig remains highly popular at 61 percent, far ahead of the AfD's Leif-Erik Holm at 28 percent. However, the current SPD-Left coalition would not secure a majority, potentially requiring a third partner. Both surveys were conducted this week with roughly 1,000 to 1,250 respondents each.
