AfD Leads Poll in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Election
A new poll shows the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party leading with 37% support in the upcoming state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, ahead of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD) at 34%. The survey by Forschungsgruppe Wahlen, conducted a week before the vote, places The Left party third with 10%, followed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) at 7%. The Greens would enter parliament with 5%, while the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance would miss the threshold at 4%. Separate polls for Berlin's state election show a tight race between The Left at 23% and the ruling CDU at 21%. The AfD follows with 17%, ahead of the Greens and SPD. The AfD recently won the Saxony-Anhalt election on September 6, prompting protests in Berlin.
