AfD and SPD neck and neck in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, CDU at record low

Ten days before the state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a new ZDF poll shows the AfD and SPD in a tight race, with the CDU at only seven percent, signaling a difficult government formation. The ZDF "Politbarometer" from September 11 places the AfD at 37 percent and the SPD at 34 percent, followed by the Left at ten and the CDU at seven. The Greens are at five percent, while the BSW would miss the parliament with four percent. A separate Pollytix poll for Campact shows the CDU at a record-low six percent, which would be its worst national result since 1945. Incumbent Minister-President Manuela Schwesig remains popular, with 61 percent support as preferred leader, but the current SPD-Left coalition would not secure a majority, likely requiring a third partner. Both surveys have margins of error, and the ZDF poll surveyed 1,053 voters from Monday to Thursday.
