Starcraft's 2030 reboot shifts from RTS to open-world shooter
Blizzard has announced a new Starcraft game, slated for release in 2030, marking a radical departure for the franchise as it will not be a real-time strategy title. The announcement was made at BlizzCon 2026 with a cinematic trailer. The upcoming game will be an open-world shooter, developed by a dedicated internal Blizzard team and led by Dan Hay, a former producer on the Far Cry series. It is the second game confirmed for the PS6 and Project Helix consoles, following the previously announced title Physint. The trailer focuses on human recruits fighting the Zerg, depicting a cycle of enlistment, training, and death in battle. The official synopsis calls on players to take up the mantle and end the conflict, with the game expected to arrive sometime in 2030.
