Blizzard announces open-world StarCraft shooter at BlizzCon, launching 2030

Blizzard announced the next StarCraft game at BlizzCon 2026 as an open-world shooter, but it will not release until 2030. This marks the first new title in the sci-fi series in over 15 years. The game, simply titled StarCraft, represents a major departure from its real-time strategy predecessors. The announcement followed a teaser campaign on the official website featuring visual glitches and a fake "compromise" warning, which fans correctly interpreted as a sign of an upcoming reveal. This is Blizzard's third attempt at a StarCraft shooter, following the cancelled StarCraft Ghost in 2006. Development is led by Dan Hay, former Far Cry executive producer, who joined Blizzard in 2022.
