Blizzard confirmed the development of Diablo 5 during BlizzCon, with a release planned for autumn 2029. The announcement was made on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The story is set a century after Diablo 4, whose latest DLC, "Lord of Hatred," launched in April. Senior director Joe Shelly stated the game will feature more classes than any previous Diablo title. New classes include the Monk and Demon Hunter from Diablo 3, plus the debut of the Plague Knight. Narrative director Jennifer Helper described a darker world where Diablo has won, forcing players to fight for survival.
