Netflix and Blizzard Team Up for Animated Diablo Series
Blizzard Entertainment announced at BlizzCon on Saturday that it is partnering with Netflix to develop an animated Diablo series, marking a major expansion of the dark-fantasy franchise into television. The announcement follows years of legal disputes between the two companies over adaptations of Blizzard properties. The press release suggests Diablo is "only the beginning," hinting that animated shows for Overwatch and World of Warcraft, previously tied up in litigation, may also be revived. The original Diablo game launched in 1996, and the series has since become a successful action-RPG franchise, with Diablo IV releasing in 2023 and its latest expansion, Lord of Hatred, arriving in April 2026. The move aligns with a late-August Puck News report that Xbox, Blizzard's parent company, is pushing further into Hollywood adaptations. Netflix has a strong track record with game adaptations like Castlevania and Tomb Raider, though it remains unclear if the streamer will gain access to Xbox's entire IP library or select specific titles.
