Blizzard unveils open-world StarCraft shooter led by ex-Far Cry director
Blizzard announced a new open-world StarCraft shooter at BlizzCon 2026 on Saturday, targeting a 2030 release date. The project was introduced by Dan Hay, former Far Cry boss, during the opening ceremony. Hay described the game as an open-world shooter where "every step is earned" on the ground, honoring StarCraft's past while pushing beyond it. The announcement follows two previously canceled StarCraft shooter projects, codenamed Ghost and Ares. The game's description highlights the Dominion's sacrifice and calls players to carry their strength forward. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier had previously confirmed the project's development, noting Blizzard's persistent attempts to create a StarCraft shooter.
