Nancy protest planned despite city center ban
A second protest against the high cost of living is planned for Saturday, October 24 in Nancy, despite an official ban on gatherings in the city center. The prefect has prohibited demonstrations from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. following violent incidents on October 17. The ban covers a large perimeter including Place Stanislas and several main streets. Organizers have not declared the event, but a gathering is still being promoted for 1 p.m. at Place de la République. The Gilets jaunes Nancy Porte Sud collective says it will join the protest or relocate to the Houdemont roundabout if blocked. The October 17 protest drew 4,000 people, and students and high schoolers are expected to join this weekend. The prefecture states that the right to demonstrate must be exercised within the legal framework.
