Tel Aviv protesters demand Netanyahu accountability before Israeli election
Thousands of people demonstrated in Tel Aviv against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu three days before Israel's general election, demanding accountability for the failure to prevent the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The protest was organized by the October Council, a group of families of the dead and hostages. Protesters marched from Rabin Square to Hostages Square, with leaders of four major opposition parties participating. Demonstrators and opposition parties are demanding an independent state commission to investigate security failures preceding the attack, which Netanyahu's government has refused to establish, instead proposing a politically-appointed body that opposition leaders say they will boycott. Recent polls suggest no political bloc will secure a parliamentary majority. The protest comes as Israel conducts a major operation in Hebron following a deadly attack on soldiers, while Netanyahu has ordered the military to prepare plans for new strikes against Iran.
