Bolton: Trump unlikely to change style after midterm losses
Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton said Vice President JD Vance is distancing himself from President Donald Trump by blaming Republican midterm losses on the Iran war, as Vance prepares for a potential 2028 presidential bid. Bolton called Vance's remarks a "big political mistake," arguing voters were more dissatisfied with the economy, rising prices, and Trump's tariff policies. He said the Iran war raised energy costs, but Trump failed to address gasoline prices, and described the Democrats' performance as a "stinging repudiation" of the president. Bolton said Trump is unlikely to change his leadership style, warning a Democratic-controlled Congress could investigate the administration. He also noted domestic turmoil could sideline foreign policy, including US-India defence cooperation and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
