Von der Leyen unveils five energy measures as Greece keeps winter reserves
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced five measures to address the energy crisis, including extending state aid rules and upgrading joint energy purchases, following the EU summit in Brussels. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated Athens is keeping reserves for winter. The measures include releasing 100 million barrels of oil and diesel via the International Energy Agency, delaying methane regulations by a year, and launching a strategic dialogue on refineries. Von der Leyen noted fossil fuel import costs have reached €106 billion since the Middle East war began. Mitsotakis said Greece is reviewing the situation biweekly and confirmed fiscal targets will not change. Leaders also discussed the next EU budget, with France warning against delaying negotiations, and a new emergency migration framework to address sudden mass arrivals.
