Mitsotakis urges EU action on energy crisis at European Council
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will urge the European Council today to adopt a coordinated EU response to the new energy crisis burdening households, emphasizing the need for targeted support measures. Mitsotakis will deliver a dual message: prioritizing energy price reductions and temporary aid for households and businesses, while insisting on maintaining fiscal stability. He will advocate for fiscal flexibility, allowing states to implement additional support without counting toward spending ceilings. The summit agenda includes competitiveness, the EU budget, and energy security. Athens seeks an ambitious budget protecting Cohesion Policy and CAP, while implementing the Letta and Draghi reports. Greece is also announcing national measures, reviewed every fifteen days.
