Large and very strong Typhoon No. 27 is moving north near the Ogasawara Islands, with its central pressure expected to drop to 925 hPa by Monday, prompting warnings of high waves along the Pacific coast. As of 3 p.m. Sunday, the typhoon was located near the Ogasawara Islands, moving north at about 20 km/h with a central pressure of 935 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 45 m/s. It is forecast to intensify and continue northward through Tuesday, bringing waves up to 8 meters and maximum gusts of 35 m/s to the Ogasawara Islands. The typhoon is expected to pass east of Japan's main island by Tuesday afternoon, but high waves and potential storm surges are possible on Pacific-facing areas from western to northern Japan. Authorities advise avoiding coastal areas.
