Typhoon No. 27 (Choi-wan) is expected to intensify by Monday, October 5, with central pressure dropping to 925 hPa and maximum instantaneous wind speeds reaching 70 m/s, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. As of 3:45 p.m. Sunday, the large, very strong typhoon was moving north near the Ogasawara Islands with central pressure at 935 hPa and maximum winds of 45 m/s. Storm winds exceeding 25 m/s extend 165 km from the center. The typhoon is forecast to remain very strong while moving north-northwest, transitioning to a strong system east of Japan by Tuesday afternoon and becoming an extratropical cyclone far east of Japan by Wednesday.
