Large and very strong Typhoon No. 27 is moving north near the Ogasawara Islands, with forecasts predicting it to intensify to a central pressure of 925 hPa and maximum winds of 50 m/s by early Monday. As of 3 p.m. Sunday, the typhoon was located near the Ogasawara Islands, moving north at about 20 km/h with a central pressure of 935 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 45 m/s. The Japan Meteorological Agency warns of high waves and strong winds in the Ogasawara Islands through Tuesday. The typhoon, named Choi-wan, is expected to continue northward near the Ogasawara Islands until Tuesday, then weaken into an extratropical cyclone east of Japan by Wednesday afternoon.
