Typhoon Cho-iwan to intensify, pass east of Kanto coast Tuesday

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that large, very strong Typhoon No. 27 (Cho-iwan) is forecast to intensify, with central pressure dropping to 925 hectopascals and maximum instantaneous winds reaching 70 meters per second by Monday. As of noon Sunday, the typhoon was located near the Ogasawara Islands, moving north at 20 kilometers per hour with central pressure of 935 hectopascals and maximum winds of 65 meters per second. It is expected to track northward east of the Kanto coastal area around Tuesday. The storm's strong wind zone extends 850 kilometers south and 600 kilometers north. Forecasters project the typhoon will maintain very strong intensity while moving north-northwest, with the storm warning zone expanding to 310 kilometers on the eastern side by Monday noon.
