Typhoon No. 27 (Cho-iwan), a large and very strong storm, was located near the Ogasawara Islands as of 6 p.m. on October 4, with a central pressure of 935 hPa and maximum winds of 45 m/s, moving north. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts the typhoon will maintain very strong intensity through October 5, with central pressure dropping to 925 hPa and winds reaching 50 m/s, before weakening to a strong storm as it reaches east of Japan by 3 p.m. on October 6. By 3 p.m. on October 7, the system is expected to transition into an extratropical cyclone far east of Japan, with maximum winds of 35 m/s, moving northeast at 65 km/h.
