Typhoon No. 27 heads toward Japan's east as strong storm by October 7
Typhoon No. 27, a large and very strong storm, is moving north-northwest near the Ogasawara Islands as of 9 a.m. on October 5, with a central pressure of 925 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 50 m/s. The Japan Meteorological Agency warns of high waves with swells in the Ogasawara Islands through October 6. The typhoon is advancing at about 20 km/h, with storm winds of 25 m/s or more extending 220 km east and 165 km west of its center. Waves of up to 8 meters are forecast for the Ogasawara Islands on both October 5 and 6, prompting the agency to urge caution. Forecasts show the typhoon moving north over the Ogasawara seas through October 6, then reaching east of Japan as a strong storm by 9 a.m. on October 7. It is expected to transition into an extratropical cyclone east of Kamchatka by October 8.
