Typhoon No. 27 (Cho-iwan), a large and very strong storm, is moving northward over the sea near the Ogasawara Islands as of 9 p.m. on October 4, with a wave warning issued for the region. The typhoon is expected to maintain its very strong intensity while moving north through Monday, October 5, then weaken to a strong system east of Japan by Tuesday, October 6. High waves are forecast for the Ogasawara Islands through that day. The storm has a central pressure of 925 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 50 m/s, with gusts up to 70 m/s. It is forecast to become an extratropical cyclone east of the Kuril Islands by Wednesday, October 7.
