Trump Considers Diesel Export Ban to Ease Record Fuel Prices

The nationwide average diesel price hit $6.53 per gallon on Tuesday, up from $3.69 a year earlier, with shortages linked to the US-Israeli war against Iran and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. US diesel exports have reached record levels, topping 1.6 million barrels daily, while inventories are expected to fall below 100 million barrels. The American Petroleum Institute opposes the ban, arguing it could worsen shortages by prompting refineries to cut production. Experts note that while Trump could use emergency powers to impose a temporary ban, it may not quickly lower prices, as rising energy costs have become a political issue ahead of November elections.
