EU fuel costs rise €270 million daily since Iran war began

Higher road fuel prices since the start of the Iran war have cost the EU an estimated €53 billion, adding an average of €270 million a day to transport costs, according to a report by Transport & Environment. Diesel accounts for €40 billion of the total extra cost, with diesel drivers paying about €142 more on average and a German long-haul truck facing an extra €236 per week. Prices have risen due to disrupted Middle East fuel production and attacks on Russian refineries. The EU's weighted average diesel price hit €2.159 per litre on 14 September, the highest since 2005. T&E suggests short-term measures like remote work and lower speed limits could cut diesel demand by 15%, while electric vehicles offer long-term protection from oil price shocks.
