Senator Flavio Bolsonaro appeals passport seizure, seeks Justice Moraes' removal from case
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has appealed against the seizure of his passports, with his defense also requesting that Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes be declared impeded from overseeing the investigation. The appeal follows Moraes' order that revoked all of Bolsonaro's Brazilian passports, including his diplomatic one. Bolsonaro traveled to the United States with his wife and daughters on October 28, arriving in Miami, Florida, despite the court order. He and lawyer Willer Tomaz are under investigation for alleged money laundering involving Tomaz's companies and betting operations, a case that originated in federal court in Rio Grande do Sul before reaching the Supreme Court. The defense argues that Moraes should be removed because the case overlaps with another investigation under Justice Andre Mendonca, and cites alleged links between the Fraction 024 company and Moraes' wife's law firm. Bolsonaro also faces a separate inquiry related to financing the film "Dark Horse" about former President Jair Bolsonaro.
