AMD Drops, Intel Rises After Nvidia's AI Forecast
Nvidia's strong quarterly results lifted most semiconductor stocks Thursday, but AMD fell about 1% while Intel rose over 3%, reflecting divergent market positions. Nvidia forecast 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028 and said AI infrastructure demand exceeds supply. Intel gained after Nvidia invested $5 billion for a 4% stake and agreed to develop joint CPU+GPU products using NVLink technology, positioning Intel as a supplier within Nvidia's ecosystem. AMD fell as Nvidia's expanded AWS partnership for 2 million additional GPUs and its own Vera CPU line intensified competitive pressure. AMD remains a strong AI contender with its Helios platform and major customers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, and Microsoft, prompting analysts to raise price targets. However, its stock remains sensitive to hyperscaler decisions favoring Nvidia.
