Asian tech stocks rebound ahead of Nvidia earnings
Asian tech stocks rebounded Wednesday as investors positioned ahead of Nvidia's earnings. South Korea's KOSPI led gains, rising 1.8%, while Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.9%. Chinese markets also advanced, with the CSI 300 up 1.2%. The rebound follows last week's sharp selloff in semiconductor stocks, driven by high US Treasury yields and profit-taking after a strong AI rally. Nvidia experienced its longest losing streak since 2022. Wall Street expects Nvidia to report about $92 billion in revenue for its fiscal second quarter, with adjusted earnings per share of $2.09. South Korean memory stocks were major beneficiaries, with SK Hynix rising 1.9% and Samsung Electronics gaining 1.8%, both being key HBM suppliers for AI data centers. Chinese tech firms also recovered broadly, though investors remain cautious about rising borrowing costs and policy resistance to AI infrastructure expansion.
