Ultra-Orthodox Party Breaks With Netanyahu in Israeli Coalition Talks

tgcom24.mediaset.it (Italian) —

Israeli coalition talks have fractured as the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism faction declined to recommend any candidate for prime minister, breaking its long-standing alliance with outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The move strips Netanyahu of seven parliamentary seats. The ultra-Orthodox party stated it is not bound to any bloc and conditioned future support on legislation preserving military service exemptions for yeshiva students. It had been part of the government until July 2025 and supported it externally since then. Itamar Ben Gvir's Jewish Power party again backed Netanyahu. President Isaac Herzog continued consultations Thursday with remaining parties, including Arab factions. Mansour Abbas's Ra'am party and the United List recommended challenger Gadi Eisenkot, citing his opposition to Netanyahu and support for a two-state vision involving Hamas disarmament.
