Israeli President to Name Prime Minister-Designate on Sunday
Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced Thursday he will name a prime minister-designate on Sunday, following consultations with all Knesset parties after the October 27 elections produced no clear winner. Former military chief Gadi Eisenkot received support from 67 of 120 parliament members, compared to 46 for outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Herzog cautioned the outcome is not final, citing disagreements within and between political alliances. Eisenkot's path to forming a government faces complications, as his coalition partners have ruled out cooperation with Arab parties during the campaign. If he fails within 28 days, the mandate could pass to another candidate, potentially leading to new elections.
