Melexis jumps 5% on BYD supply deal as European markets open higher
European markets opened higher Monday ahead of Nvidia's results Wednesday and the Jackson Hole central bankers' meeting Thursday and Friday. Paris gained 0.50%, Frankfurt 0.44%, Milan 0.54%, London 0.11%, and Brussels' Bel20 rose 0.24% to 5,827.31 points. Melexis led Brussels gains with a 5.25% jump after announcing a direct supply agreement with Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD. The semiconductor specialist said this natural evolution of its multi-year collaboration will strengthen its presence in China and bring it closer to BYD's future models. Investors are watching Nvidia's quarterly results as a barometer for AI investments amid doubts about profitability and valuations. They also await Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech after sovereign bond yields spiked last week, while monitoring Middle East tensions and oil prices.
