Israeli Opposition Leader Eisenkot Rules Out Netanyahu Alliance, Rejects Trump Intervention
Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot has ruled out joining a government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he would reject any intervention by US President Donald Trump on the matter. The announcement follows October 27 elections that left neither bloc with a Knesset majority. Eisenkot said he would respect a Trump invitation but insist Israel's political decisions remain internal, according to a KAN News report. Trump's associates have reportedly explored a Netanyahu-Eisenkot unity government for stability, with Netanyahu viewing Eisenkot as a suitable partner amid potential Iran hostilities. The fragmented election gave Netanyahu's bloc 53 seats and opposition parties 48, with Arab parties holding 19. Opposition leaders have agreed to recommend Eisenkot to President Isaac Herzog, potentially securing 67 Knesset members' support, though Avigdor Liberman has ruled out a coalition dependent on Arab parties.
