ChatGPT gains Apple Messages plugin for Macs

OpenAI has added an Apple Messages plugin to ChatGPT's macOS desktop app, enabling it to read, search, analyze, and send iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations on Apple Silicon Macs. The feature was announced August 20, 2026. The plugin works across all ChatGPT plans but requires a Mac with Apple Silicon. Users can ask ChatGPT to find conversations, summarize chats, and draft replies, with a default approval step required before sending messages. Permissions for automation, contacts, and full disk access are necessary. OpenAI warns that disabling per-send approval removes the final review opportunity and recommends keeping it for conversations with potentially misleading instructions. The plugin does not support remote interaction via Messages or work in regular ChatGPT chats.
