ChatGPT for Mac now integrates with Apple Messages
OpenAI released a plugin on August 20, 2026, enabling the macOS ChatGPT desktop app to integrate with Apple's Messages app, allowing search, drafting, and sending of conversations. The feature is limited to Apple Silicon Macs and specific chat modes. The plugin works only within Codex and ChatGPT Work chats, not standard ChatGPT conversations, and is unavailable on web, mobile, or other extensions. Users must install it from the app's plugin section and grant macOS access permissions. Example uses include finding birthdays, suggesting follow-ups, and detecting spam. For safety, ChatGPT requires user approval before sending messages by default, with options for one-time or permanent permission per chat. OpenAI recommends keeping approval enabled for untrusted conversations, and administrators can disable the plugin for managed workspaces.
