Wall Street tech stocks plunge as Nasdaq drops 2.3%
Wall Street experienced a sharp decline on Thursday, with technology stocks hit particularly hard. The Nasdaq index fell 2.3 percent shortly after opening, while the broader S&P 500 dropped 0.8 percent. Meta was the biggest loser, falling 6.2 percent despite reporting surprisingly strong earnings yesterday. Chipmakers AMD and Intel both dropped around 4.5 percent, while SpaceX fell 5.7 percent and Dell declined similarly. Amazon fell 3.5 percent, Nvidia dropped 2.3 percent, and Broadcom, Alphabet, and Microsoft also saw losses. The downturn followed a heavy day across global markets, with Oslo down 1.2 percent and Frankfurt down 0.8 percent. Oil and gas prices continued rising. In contrast, defensive stocks like Berkshire Hathaway, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, P&G, and Walmart posted solid gains.
