Tesla and SpaceX explore record-breaking $3 trillion merger
Elon Musk's companies Tesla and SpaceX are exploring a record-breaking merger, with special committees formed to evaluate the potential combination valued at over $3 trillion combined. Musk, who owns major stakes in both firms, said he is excluded from the committees due to conflicts of interest. He called the merger a good idea but noted it requires approval from at least 50 percent of Tesla shareholders. SpaceX is currently valued at $1.9 trillion, Tesla at $1.48 trillion. A merger would consolidate Musk's control, as he already holds majority voting power at SpaceX but seeks a larger Tesla stake. Tesla shares rose two percent in after-hours trading, suggesting investors expect limited premium. SpaceX reported $4.4 billion quarterly profit, driven by Starlink and AI data center growth.
