Trump names hardline aide Stephen Miller chief of staff
President Donald Trump named Stephen Miller, a close aide known for hardline immigration policies, as his new chief of staff on Friday, following the Republican Party's midterm election defeat. Miller will assume the role on Monday. Miller, 41, currently serves as deputy chief of staff and homeland security advisor, and has been instrumental in driving the mass deportation programme. He replaces Susie Wiles, the first female chief of staff to a US president, who will move to Trump's political operation. The appointment signals Trump's intention to intensify his policies after Democrats gained control of both the House and Senate. Wiles, recently cleared of breast cancer, said serving in the White House was the honour of a lifetime.
