Katie Miller defends lobbying for husband Stephen's White House promotion
Katie Miller defended her lobbying efforts to secure the White House chief of staff position for her husband, Stephen Miller, stating that a wife should support her husband and suggesting others "find a new one" if their wives do not. Her comments came in response to a POLITICO report detailing her campaign. According to the report, Katie Miller contacted several people close to President Donald Trump, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and individuals near Vice President JD Vance, urging them to advocate for Stephen if they believed he was a better candidate. Her outreach spanned several weeks as Trump considered successors to Susie Wiles, intensifying after the election but without calling for Wiles's removal. The White House backed Stephen Miller, calling him key to Trump's America First agenda. Other potential candidates discussed included Bill Pulte, Steve Witkoff, Kevin McCarthy, Randy Levine, Lee Zeldin, and Sergio Gor. Katie Miller, a former Homeland Security official, declined to comment to POLITICO.
