Stephen Miller promoted to White House chief of staff after midterm losses
President Donald Trump promoted Stephen Miller to White House chief of staff on Friday, following Republican losses in the midterm elections. Miller, 41, previously served as deputy chief of staff and homeland security adviser in Trump's second term. Miller is best known for architecting the administration's immigration crackdown, including a target of 3,000 arrests per day and directing ICE to target all undocumented immigrants, not just those with criminal records. He has also advocated for ending birthright citizenship and pushed for aggressive foreign policy stances. A longtime Trump loyalist, Miller founded the advocacy group America First Legal after Trump's 2020 election loss. He has worked with budget director Russell Vought on executive actions Trump can take without congressional approval, and has been a prominent voice on countering diversity initiatives and transgender rights.
