Pakistan Army Chief in Tehran to Mediate Iran-US Conflict

Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday to push for mediation in the Iran-US war. The visit follows a phone call between General Munir and former US President Donald Trump. General Munir also met Iran's parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, as well as Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's highest national security body. Pakistan helped broker a June memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, but that agreement has since faltered. Munir was expected to meet people close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. His talks were also set to cover Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and a mutual defence agreement between Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
