Pakistan army chief's Tehran visit follows Trump call

Munir arrived in Tehran with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, part of Pakistan's efforts to promote regional peace. He met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other officials, aiming to reduce gaps between Iran and the US to prevent renewed war. Pakistan has served as a key mediator between Washington and Tehran in 2026, with prior efforts leading to a provisional peace deal in June that has since faltered. Munir is also expected to discuss Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and a recent defense pact.
